What is a Counselling Psychologist?

Counselling Psychologists are mental health experts and are trained in a diverse range of psychotherapy techniques.

In Australia, Counselling Psychology is one of nine specialist areas and is a protected title under Australian law (others include: clinical psychology, forensic psychology, sports psychology etc).

Counselling Psychology has a distinct philosophical stance of recognising the strengths and resources of people at all levels of psychological functioning, and working collaboratively to bring about meaningful well-being.

Counselling Psychologists have completed a minimum of 8 years of training: a three year psychology undergraduate program (or equivalent), a fourth year program, a Masters degree in Psychology, and then completed a minimum of two years work supervision.

All psychologists in Australia have a yearly renewal registration, which requires professional development, peer supervision and a recency of practice.

Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral. You can book an appointment directly with Tim by clicking 'Book Appointment' at the bottom of the page.

Why are your appointments paid in advance / pre-paid?

Following up or 'chasing' unpaid invoices is the worst part of Tim's job. Paying upfront stops this.  If you would prefer not to pay upfront, please do not hesitate to contact Tim to discuss other options.

Can I book an appointment if I don't live in France?

Yes, Tim can work with anyone based in Europe and Australia.

Do you work with people who are gender, sexual and/or relationship diverse?

Yes, Tim welcomes people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, asexual, intersex and anyone who identifies as gender, sexual and/or relationship diverse. Tim embraces diversity and it's unique experiences.

Are you sex worker friendly?

Yes, Tim is a sex-worker affirmative psychologist. He has completed Sex Work Therapist Training by European Sex Workers' Rights Alliance. Sex work is work.

Are there any mental health issues you do not work with?

Tim does not work with eating disorders. In Australia, people can access an Eating Disorder Plan (EDP), which is an evidence-based, best practice model of treatment. The plan can include up to 20 Medicare-subsidised sessions with a dietitian and 40 sessions with a mental health clinician over a 12-month period.
